Queen Elizabeth Junior & Senior High
The success of our Roll Out Carbon Week
Here is an update on our Roll Out Carbon Week that took place between October 2nd and 6th of this school year!
Queen Elizabeth High School took the initiative to participate to cut down the carbon emissions around the school and as promised we supported them in every way possible.
We were so happy to see how much effort the students put in to participate to this cause. The lucky winner of Queen E is Lily J, a Grade 9 student who was keen on sharing and participating Roll Out Carbon Week.

Our Cyclist in Residence work
Grade 7 students learning how to fix bicycles and ride them with our Cyclists in Residence, Rob Crooks, Stuart Saavedra and John Bolton!
New racks are on the way!
Youth en Route is working with school administration and CBE facilities to install new bike racks at the front of the school. Temporary racks will be installed for September.
Stay tuned as we come up with a permanent solution for bike storage that is safe for bikes and accessible to all who want to use it.
If you want more information about biking to school, please see your school bike champion Mrs. Haney (yes, the principal!)
Infrastructure Report
Brand new infrastructure report for Queen Elizabeth High School!
Youth En Route worked very hard in collaboration with two graduate Urban Planning students, Nada Affan, and Adam Schwartz to create this report. It offers research findings and actionable recommendations for safer biking infrastructure throughout Calgary. Establishing the right infrastructure is key to creating safe and healthy environments for pedestrians and cyclists. We hope this report will put forward safe biking infrastructure ideas to get to school and spark conversations within communities to make such changes. To know more, read this post!
Theft Video
Theft video into a statement
Youth en Route knows that the risk of bike theft is a significant barrier to students choosing active travel. The risk of theft is the No. 3 reason for not riding to school, having an average of 60% of students telling us they are afraid of losing their bikes per school. We hope that this video will enlighten all Calgarians on the right ways of securing their bicycles.
Always Put Safety First:
Safety is your responsibility. Please ride where you are comfortable, know your route and always wear a helmet!
