We’re looking for new board members

Can you spare a few hours per month to improve active transportation opportunities for youth in our province?

Do you want to help an emerging non-profit thrive and build a Calgary-made, dynamic organization? Are you ready to share your skills and experience and join a group of passionate and engaging people working towards healthier, greener and more equitable spaces?

We are looking for new board members.

One year in

Youth en Route has been incorporated for one year. As we start our second, we are looking for a few great people to join our board or work on one of our committees. Our current needs include volunteers with legal, fund development or policy development skills

A Director will sit on at least one committee and attend monthly board meetings. Committee work is about 2-6 hours per month. If you’re not sure of your ability to commit time, consider starting as a committee volunteer.

“We are a diverse, fun group that has come together to do lots of amazing things in a short time,” says Board Chair Shiv Ruparell. “Our focus now to ensure we have the foundation in place to continue for the long term. While we’ve had some quick wins, changing how youth consider active transportation is a long-term project.”

Choose your spot

We have launched a recruitment committee of the board to consider skills and find the people to take Youth en Route to the next level.

Our committees include:

Fundraising: With our Charitable status pending, we are planning for donations, as well as considering grant applications and other sources of income. Skills: Fund development, grants applications, retailing and operations.

Communications: We’ve got our key messages and a basic plan in place, but would love some help to direct and polish our communications to stakeholders. Skills: writing, editing, social media, marketing, design, web development.

Policy and programs: What does a safe route look like? How can we support students learning skills and gaining confidence? These questions are answered and our work evaluated by this committee. Skills: research, urban planning, transportation engineering, policy development.
