Youth Advisory Council
The Youth Advisory Council was created so that students in Grades 8 to 12 across Calgary could contribute to the conversation on active transportation and help set the direction of our innovative charity.
Youth en Route empowers youth to be strong, resilient, and healthy by giving them the ability and accessibility to choose active transportation to reach everyday destinations. By collaborating with youth, we can ensure our organization reflects their perspective on active transportation and offers solutions to the challenges they face.

I am Aishani, a student at Westmount Charter School. I have enjoyed biking since I was young and often went with my dad and brother. Biking reminds me of happy memories, and I joined Youth en Route’s Youth Advisory Council to expand the joy of biking to people across Calgary.
Aleeana J. – William Aberhart High School
My name is Aleeana and I love biking and exploring our beautiful city through active transport. Together we can make our city a vibrant and safe place to bike.
Bailey B. – Forest Lawn High School
Hello! My name is Bailey and I joined Youth en route because I love bikes and I love riding bikes when I can. I also love to learn new things and new skills. I always wanted to help others learn how to ride bikes.
Bhuvi G. – Henry Wise Wood High School
Hi! My name is Bhuvi and I am thrilled to be a part of Youth en Route’s Youth Advisory Council. I am passionate about the work that we do, understanding that by making active transport accessible to people, especially youth, is a change that would bring countless benefits into people’s lives. Beyond YER, I am attending Henry Wise Wood High School, and am involved in various other extracurricular activities. I enjoy partaking in fine arts such as dance and playing the flute and tenor saxophone in band. Other clubs and activities I do that have provided me with leadership experience and confidence in public speaking are Debate, Model UN, Girl Guides, and Air Cadets. I am excited to use my skills in this Council and help Youth en Route make a difference in students’ lives!

In addition, I am engaged in youth councils and volunteering initiatives with organizations across and beyond Calgary, including the YMCA, Calgary Public Library, Dream for Better Tomorrow Foundation and more, and joined Youth en Route as a youth advisor because of its unique, multifaceted initiative – an initiative centered around biking, but also committed to promoting sustainable transportation, infrastructural development and regular physical activity.
Evan W. – Westmount Charter School
My name is Evan, and I am currently attending Westmount Charter School. I love playing volleyball, and am a former competitive swimmer! I developed my love for cycling and traveling on my own when I started getting older and began training harder for sports. Cycling is my ability to be free and not have to worry parents about transportation, and you will often find me biking around the northwest!
Helen H. – St. Mary’s High School
Hello, my name is Helen. I am an incoming 10th grade student at St. Mary High School. I joined the Youth en Route Advisory Council because I believe that active transport and biking in particular should be more accessible and more people should consider biking rather than driving or taking a bus. I personally wanted to be apart of this council because I wanted to join the conversation about biking in Calgary and I wanted to give my feedback. Caring for the environment has always been important to me, and as we push to reach net zero emissions, active transportation is a big part of reaching this goal and I felt like council was a good opportunity to speak with others who share the same beliefs and mindset I do.
Hendrix T. – Sir Winston Churchill High School
Hello, my name’s Hendrix T. and go to Winston Churchill high school. I did hear about Youth en Route from one my school teachers at school and I decide to join because I used to bike myself and I think it’s a great cause. We do hope to inspire more bikers out there.
Joanna D. – Western Canada High School
Hi! My name is Joanna and I am so excited and honored to be a part of the Youth en Route Youth Advisory Council. I joined the Youth Advisory Council because I wanted to help promote a healthier lifestyle and environment for youths, and I have a huge passion for biking, which I also want to share with others my age. I want to make an impact by making a safer, better environment for youths to bike in safety, and promoting biking to help decrease our ecological footprint on our planet. I am so excited to start working with my other council members to make an impact on the youths around us!
Kazzy T. – Forest Lawn High School
I am an avid fan of k-pop and sometimes horror, and I use books as a form of escapism. I support Youth en Route by assisting with information design and as a leading team member on the Youth Advisory Council.
Mohaddesa R. – Queen Elizabeth High School
As a girl I was never allowed to ride a bike in my country. Two years ago, when I first moved to Canada my family still wouldn’t appreciate of me going around on a bike. When I found out about Youth En Route, I searched out their website and learnt about all the positive changes they are making in communities. So I decided to join YER. My family was convinced to let me join, because they knew that trusted people are running this council. Joining YER has made lots of positive changes in my personal life. It inspired me to start learning how to ride a bike, and now I can encourage others to ride their bike more often.
Naima L. – Our Lady of the Rockies High School
I joined the Youth en Route advisory council because I wanted to learn more about the biking community and I wanted to help make decisions on YERS council. I heard about Youth en Route through my school and thought how great of an opportunity this is to meet new people and learn communication skills. I love to bike in the summer so hearing about Youth en Route and their mission really inspired me to join their council. I hope to contribute my ideas around biking and I hope to make an impact.
Rohan K. – Westmount Charter School
I joined the Youth en Route Youth Advisory Council because I want to make active travel accessible for all youth. My school posted the link to the information for signing up to become a part of the Youth Advisory Council, so I had to join. Ever since I was a kid, I’ve loved biking, whether I’m mountain biking or just biking to a friend’s house. Through my role, I want to advocate for more educational campaigns and funding for student biking that support active travel.
Will P. – Canmore Collegiate High School
I’m Will! I’m a mountain bike coach from Canmore and have biked frequently for the past 7 years. I love getting outdoors and helping fuel peoples passion for biking, and I can’t wait to do what I can to fuel change with Youth En Route!
William W. – Western Canada High School
Hey! I’m William and I attend Western Canada High School. I love to bike and everything associated with it from the people, to the equipment. My favourite places to bike in Calgary are along the Elbow River and the Riverwalk promenade. I found out about YER after hearing about their amazing bike programs from a friend. I wanted to join the Youth Advisory Council because it’s a council of like-minded youth who are all passionate about making biking more accessible to all. I hope to contribute my passion for advocacy and urban planning to the council to help make biking the norm for youth in Calgary.
