Spreading generosity this November

As Giving Tuesday is coming up very fast, we are hoping that you are feeling ready to kick off the most wonderful time of the year by participating in this charitable initiative.

Approaching to its 11th year of celebration, Giving Tuesday continues to be “the world’s largest generosity movement,” encouraging people to do good deeds for the benefit of the less fortunate.

Let’s keep that going

Since we’ve been a charity for more than a year, Youth en Route has never requested donations— aside from the donate button, we have on our website. But at this time, we might use new funds to support our current operations. We have significantly more requests than our current funding meets.

Here’s what we could do with the extra money:

$500 – could help us support more special education classes around Calgary by providing them with more tricycles and aid students to become confident riders in the gym.

Just as in October, we visited Saint Mary’s High School and provided their ESII class with planned lesson plans. Many students were able to try riding for the first time and even after a few days, most began to ride independently!

The Saint Mary’s administration and teachers are thrilled with the week’s results and are eager to use the same techniques to maintain skill development in the near future.

$100 – could help us target more schools with our Cyclists in Residence program to teach cycling skills and encourage riding. Rob Crooks and Stuart Saavedra, work hard to work out lesson plans with teachers to teach kids cycling, bike knowledge and maintenance skills. Crooks and Saavedra also use the same bike fleets we have provided in the previous years to encourage active travel.

$50, could help us refurbish a donated or salvaged bike and move them to a school for a fleet or a student in need. This is already done by voluntary work by the Bike Shed from the Greater Forest Lawn 55+ Society, unfortunately the cost of the bike parts themselves, are costly.

We understand that transparency and credibility are key values. So, we strive to be as transparent as possible, you can see financial statements and reports on our website.

This year, as you consider where to make your donations to Giving Tuesday, consider Youth en Route.

However it is not only about money…

Giving Tuesday is all about encouraging people for a shared goal of making giving a normal part of life. There is always an option to donate your precious time for charitable causes.

In particular, volunteering is also included in the Giving Tuesday initiative.

Here at Youth en Route, we are looking for people to help us with transportation of bicycles and the advocacy of our mission.

We recognize that we are a small charity, but we do strive to grow every day and we have made an impact on many students, teachers, parents and schools so far to inspire youth to use active modes of transportation to school and beyond.

Spend a moment this year and join the initiative, either by donating money, time or bikes. Every little bit helps.

A donation can be made through Canada Helps or through Benevity Causes.

Let’s spread kindness and generosity by participating in Giving Tuesday, this 28th of November!
