YER First Summer Communications Student
Meet Youth en Route’s first employee!
Thanks to Canada Summer Jobs, Youth en Route has been able to hire a communications assistant. Meet Valeriya Mynak! Val is a third-year student at the University of Calgary, doing a double major in communications and international relations.
You’ll see Val around the city, often in her Youth en Route yellow shirt snapping pics, looking at local pathway infrastructure, counting bikes in racks and finding cool ways to tell our stories.
She’ll also be the one interacting with Calgarians on our social media channels for the summer.
“I’m really excited to be learning a lot about communications and the work of non-profits,” said Mynak. “This is a great learning experience for me.”
Val first connected with Youth en Route as a Grade 12 student at Dr. EP Scarlett High School, where it all started for YER. She was part of a focus group that helped land the name of our fledgling organization. Who would have thought she would be a part of the organization two years later…
Val admits to mostly getting around by car. But she recognizes that’s not always needed. She hopped on a bike to visit her sister just last week. “It’s a great way to get in some physical activity into your day,” she said.
Animal lover, travelling enthusiast, workout nerd, and community volunteer, Mynak also speaks four languages, French, Ukranian, Russian and English and is a big advocate for the environment.
